Little Stardust Shopify Web Design Case Study

Project summary: Fat Buddha Web Design created a Shopify website for The Natural Play Makeup Company, a UK children’s natural play makeup brand seen on Dragons’ Den, designed to showcase its product range, explain its safety-led positioning and support ecommerce growth.

The Natural Play Makeup Company is a UK children’s play makeup brand creating natural, non-toxic makeup products for little ones. Founded by Kitty Auguste, the brand was born from a parent’s search for a safer alternative to the harsh, brightly coloured play makeup often available for children.

We worked with The Natural Play Makeup Company to create a Shopify website that could support the brand’s ecommerce growth, communicate product reassurance clearly and make it easy for parents, grandparents and gift buyers to shop the range. The website needed to feel playful and magical, while still giving adults the practical ingredient, safety and delivery information they need before buying.

Shopify was the right platform for the project because The Natural Play Makeup Company needed a flexible ecommerce store for product collections, gift-led browsing, promotional offers, customer accounts, checkout, email sign-ups, product education and future growth following increased brand awareness from Dragons’ Den.

The Brief

The Natural Play Makeup Company needed a Shopify website that could present its products in a fun, parent-friendly and trustworthy way.

The website needed to communicate several important messages at once:

The Challenge

Children’s makeup is a highly trust-led ecommerce category. The website needed to appeal to children visually, but it also needed to persuade adults. Parents and gift buyers want to know what is in the products, whether they are suitable for children and whether the brand understands the concerns around harsh ingredients, skin irritation and age-appropriate play.

The Natural Play Makeup Company also had a wide product mix. The site needed to support makeup kits, pressed powders, lipsticks, nail polish, biodegradable glitter, stencils, hair mascaras, accessories and a junior range for children who are “too old for unicorns”. The challenge was to make that range easy to shop without losing the brand’s playful personality.

The website therefore needed to balance three things: product discovery, parent reassurance and a fun, imaginative brand experience.
