Project Outline & Goals

Shopify Redesign and Modernisation for Charmed Interiors

Creating a more visual, user-friendly shopping experience for a home furnishings retailer

Charmed Interiors is a family-run home furnishings and gift shop based in Spalding, Lincolnshire. The business sells online across the UK while also serving customers from its physical store, offering bedding, curtains, cushions, throws, towels, home accessories and gifts.

We worked with Charmed Interiors on a full website redesign and modernisation project. The goal was to create a more polished, visual and user-friendly ecommerce experience that made it easier for customers to browse a large product range, compare options and shop confidently across desktop and mobile.

The finished site introduced a more modern design system, improved navigation, interactive product discovery features, stronger mobile usability and more advanced product filtering for detailed homeware attributes such as size, tog rating and thread count.

The client

Charmed Interiors combines the feel of an independent high street homeware shop with the reach of an ecommerce store. Its product range covers multiple categories, including bedding sets, ready-made curtains, cushions, throws, towels, bathroom textiles, home décor, kitchenware and gifts.

For a store with this kind of catalogue, customers need more than attractive visuals. They need clear routes into the right category, simple ways to narrow down products and helpful product pages that show variations clearly. That was the focus of the redesign.

The challenge

Charmed Interiors needed a website that felt more modern and worked harder as a shopping tool.

The previous experience did not fully reflect the quality of the products or the breadth of the catalogue. Customers needed a smoother way to move between product types, explore featured ranges, filter by practical attributes and view product variants without unnecessary friction.

The key challenges were:

  • Making a large home furnishings catalogue easier to browse
  • Improving navigation across bedding, curtains, homeware and gift categories
  • Creating a more visual shopping journey
  • Improving mobile usability for customers browsing on smaller screens
  • Making product variants clearer through image-based swatches
  • Helping customers filter products by important buying criteria
  • Modernising the overall look and feel of the site
  • Supporting both local brand trust and national ecommerce sales

Our approach

We redesigned the Charmed Interiors website around how customers actually shop for homeware.

Instead of relying on basic category links, the new experience gives customers more visual prompts, quicker access to popular product areas and better tools for narrowing down choice. The design was modernised while still keeping the warmth and trust of a family-run interiors retailer.

The work focused on five core areas:

  • Better navigation
  • Richer product discovery
  • Improved collection browsing
  • Clearer variant selection
  • Mobile-first optimisation

Image-based mega menu

One of the biggest improvements was the introduction of a tabbed, image-based mega menu.

For a home furnishings store, navigation needs to be highly visual. Customers are often browsing by room, product type, style, colour or brand, so the menu had to do more than list links. The redesigned mega menu uses tabbed sections and imagery to make the catalogue easier to understand at a glance.

This helps customers move quickly into key categories such as bedding, curtains, cushions, throws, towels and accessories, while giving the site a more premium and editorial feel.

Interactive product carousels

We added interactive product carousels to support better product discovery across the site.

These carousels help showcase new arrivals, featured collections, seasonal products, best sellers and brand-led ranges without forcing customers to dig through multiple collection pages. For a retailer that regularly updates products and stocks a wide range of homeware styles, this gives the homepage and landing pages more flexibility.

The carousels also make the site feel more dynamic, giving Charmed Interiors more ways to promote key products and collections throughout the customer journey.

Mobile optimisation

The redesign placed strong emphasis on mobile usability.

Homeware customers often browse casually on mobile before returning later to purchase, so the site needed to feel smooth, clear and easy to use on smaller screens. We improved the mobile layout, navigation behaviour, product browsing experience and touch-friendly interactions.

This made it easier for mobile users to explore categories, scroll through product carousels, open menu sections, view product imagery and select product options without friction.

Variant image swatches

Product choice is especially important in home furnishings. Customers often need to compare colourways, patterns, sizes and fabric options before choosing the right item.

To make this easier, we implemented variant image swatches on product pages and collection pages. Instead of forcing customers to open multiple products or rely on text-only variant options, the site allows customers to see visual swatches directly within the shopping experience.

This improves browsing speed and helps customers understand product variations faster, especially for bedding, curtains, cushions and other design-led products where the visual detail matters.

Advanced product filtering

Charmed Interiors needed filtering that matched the way customers buy home furnishings.

We introduced a more advanced filtering system so shoppers could narrow products by practical and category-specific attributes. For bedding and home textiles, this included filters such as size, tog rating and thread count, alongside other useful product criteria.

These filters help customers move from a large collection to the right product faster. Instead of scrolling through unsuitable items, they can refine the catalogue based on the details that matter to their purchase.

A more modern ecommerce experience

Alongside the functional upgrades, we modernised the overall design of the site.

The new look gives Charmed Interiors a cleaner, more professional ecommerce presence while still feeling approachable and suitable for an independent family-run retailer. The redesign improved how products are presented, how categories are introduced and how customers move through the site.

The result is a website that feels more current, easier to browse and better aligned with the quality of the products Charmed Interiors sells.
